Mehman Aliyev refuses to debate media bill with Ahmed Ismayilov

Director of Turan Information Agency Mehman Aliyev, who has criticized the draft law “On Media” under discussion of the Milli Majlis, did not want to substantiate his position on open TV debates, Report informs, citing a joint extended online meeting of the Milli Majlis committees on human rights and legal policy and state-building.

Executive Director of the Media Development Agency Ahmed Ismayilov noted in his speech that they are ready for open discussions of the draft project with all interested parties. However, the opposing side does not want to substantiate his remarks in an open debate.

“We participated in various debates during the discussion of this draft project. Yesterday we received an invitation from the Public TV and consented to take part in open discussions with Mehman Aliyev. However, later it turned out that Mehman muallim (mode of address) is not a supporter of discussing the issue at such debates,” said Ahmad Ismayilov.

Mehman Aliyev explains the refusal to debate by “the absence of a common strategy on the draft law”.
