Azerbaijani-Russian co-op in new regional security system discussed in Baku

A round table on the topic “Russia-Azerbaijan in a new system of regional security and economic cooperation. Results of the year and prospects”, organized by the North-South Political Science Center, has been held in Baku.

Report informs that the event was attended by Azerbaijani and Russian MPs, as well as experts.

Anzhelika Trapeznikova, executive director of the North-South Political Science Center, noted that Russia is the largest consumer of agricultural products from Azerbaijan, Russia’s investments in Azerbaijan over the past few years amount to $4.5 billion.

Emphasizing the economic potential of Azerbaijan, Trapeznikova highly appreciated the initiative of the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to invite Azerbaijan as an observer to the EAEU.

Ambassador-at-Large of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Parvin Mirzazade spoke about humanitarian and cultural relations between the countries:

“We have an excellent attitude towards Russians, a wonderful attitude towards the Russian language.”

Speaking about the normalization of the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the ambassador said that Azerbaijan stands for the soonest delimitation and demarcation of borders, taking into account the recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan has no territorial claims to any state in the world. Armenia has no access to the world, except for the land route to Iran. It is isolated, and the opening of the Zangazur corridor will restore all communications in the region,” he added.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration Artem Turov said during his video address at the round table:

“We see how often the leaders of Azerbaijan and Russia meet, how the work of the inter-parliamentary group is structured; this indicates a close relationship.”

The Russian MP also stressed the actively developing economic cooperation between the countries.
