Snow falls in Egyptian Alexandria

Snow has fallen in the streets of Egyptian Alexandria on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, Report informs, citing RIA Novosti.

The cyclone made landfall in Egypt on Sunday, bringing showers to the north of the country and sand storms to its central part. In the area of St.Catherine’s Monastery in the center of the Sinai peninsula, the air temperature dropped to -2 at night, while in Cairo and cities along the Mediterranean coast, the figure did not exceed 7 degrees, with the stormy wind.

Meteorologists recommended that the population avoid trees and advertising poles and exercise caution while driving due to poor visibility.

Residents of Alexandria woke up to the shocking view of snow-covered streets. The snow soon melted, flooding the streets and blocking traffic already complicated by previous showers.

According to Egyptian meteorologists, adverse weather will last for at least one more day.

Mediterranean and Red Sea ports halted admission of vessels due to 5-meter high waves.
