Court сommissions expert evaluation report on Saleh Rustamli’s health status

Baku’s Nizami district court has commissioned an expert evaluation report into the state of health of the imprisoned former head of the Gadabay District executive authorities, Saleh Rustamli.

Lawyer Bahruz Bayramov told Report that an application had been filed with the court for Rustamli’s early release on health grounds. The court ordered an expert evaluation of the inmate’s illness. The trial was postponed indefinitely.

Saleh Rustamli, who served as the executive head of Gadabay District in 1992-93, was arrested in 2018.

He was charged under Articles 192.3.2 (illegal business), 193-1.3.1 and 193-1.3.2 of the Criminal Code (legalization of large amounts of money or other property illegally obtained by an organized group).

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Saleh Rustamli to 7 years and 3 months in prison.

He had recently gone on a hunger strike. On the 41st day of the hunger strike, the former head of the executive authorities had health problems and stopped the protest.
