Ukraine to seek compensation for downed Boeing from Iran

Ukrainian prosecutor’s office will assist the relatives of the deceased passengers of the downed airplane in every possible way, the country’s Deputy Prosecutor General Maxim Yakubovsky said on the second anniversary of the tragedy, according to Report.

“You can count on our support. We must achieve justice and compensation to the relatives of the deceased,” he said at a mourning ceremony near the granite stone in memory of the tragedy victims.

Maxim Yakubovsky called the downing of a civil airplane ‘an unprecedented case when the whole world rose to the defense of 176 innocent people.”

Flight 752 (PS752/AUI752) was a scheduled international passenger flight from Tehran to Kyiv operated by Ukraine International Airlines (UIA). On 8 January 2020, the Boeing 737-800 operating the route was downed shortly after takeoff from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). On 11 January, the Iranian government admitted that the military had shot down the airliner, having mistaken it for a cruise missile.
