WHO: Europe entering less severe phase of COVID pandemic

It is too early to say that the Omicron strain may end the coronavirus pandemic, but the European region appears to be entering a new, less acute phase of the pandemic, WHO Representative in Russia Melita Vujnovic said, Report informs referring to RIA Novosti.

“The pandemic is global, but in different regions of the world it has different intensity. In the European region, when the Omicron strain appeared, we saw higher transmissibility, lower virulence, and these are signs that we can move on to a new phase of the pandemic,” Vujnovic said.

“We are not talking about the end of the pandemic, or that the pandemic will end, but it is expected that we can leave the acute phase of the pandemic behind,” she said.
