Ambassador: It’s proposed to increase swap deliveries between Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan

There are proposals to increase swap deliveries between Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan; discussions in this direction are constantly being conducted by the relevant structures, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Alizada said in an interview with the Iranian news agency IRIB, Report informs.

According to the ambassador, there are new initiatives related to the strengthening of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the gas sector, assessments are being carried out.

Ali Alizada noted that the natural gas exchange project is the first large and effective project that was prepared and signed with the new government of Iran in a short time.

“This project will not only benefit all three parties, but will also contribute to trilateral and regional cooperation,” he said.

On November 28, 2021, a trilateral agreement on swap gas supplies was signed in Ashgabat between Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. The signing ceremony was attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Iranian President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi.

According to the agreement, up to 1.5-2 billion cubic meters of gas per year will be supplied from Turkmenistan through Iran to Azerbaijan.

The implementation of the contract began in January, 2022.
