Two journalists working for UN detained in Afghanistan

Two journalists on assignment from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have been detained in Kabul, Report informs with reference to TASS.

In a statement, the commissioner says that everything possible is being done to resolve the situation.

“Two journalists, who were carrying out the task of the UNHCR, as well as Afghan citizens working with them, were detained in Kabul,” the department said.

UNHCR did not provide any other details regarding this incident.

After the US announced the withdrawal of its armed forces from Afghanistan, the Taliban launched a large-scale operation to establish control over the country. On August 15, the radicals entered Kabul without a fight, and President Ashraf Ghani left the country. On September 6, the Taliban announced the establishment of control over the entire Afghan territory, and on September 7 they announced the composition of the interim government, the legitimacy of which has not yet been recognized by any country.
