What are the new rules for studying abroad? Answer 8 questions

Selection criteria and procedures for Azerbaijani citizens to study abroad have been approved. The decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The rules were adopted in accordance with the order of President Ilham Aliyev on February 28 on financing the education of young people in foreign universities in two levels – bachelor’s and master’s.

BBC News researched new rules and conditions for studying abroad in Azerbaijani and tried to answer 8 questions:

The program has already started accepting documents, and those who wish can apply until June 27.

The 5-year program envisages sending 400 young people to study abroad every year.

At the time of admission, preference will be given to master’s degree. Of the 400 people who will study abroad each year, 320 will study for a master’s degree and 80 for a bachelor’s degree.

Young people will be able to study abroad in 15 priority areas.

The program, which covers the years 2022-2026, provides full scholarships and covers education, visas and registration, monthly living, health insurance, international transport, banking and plastic card costs in the country of study:

In the selection for the bachelor’s degree, preference will be given to young people who have won international competitions. These individuals will have the opportunity to study abroad directly, without an interview, by submitting an application to the university and a language certificate and other documents.

In addition, unlike other participants, the winners of the International Olympics will not be required to pass the SSC exam.

The general criteria include:

The candidate must either be in the final stages of the bachelor’s degree or have a full bachelor’s degree.

The applicant is required to be admitted to a foreign higher education institution, to have a specialization in the priority field and university determined by the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan, as well as an international language certificate of foreign language proficiency at least C1.

ALPT, DUOLINGO, CILS, DELE, DELF, HSK, IELTS, JLPT, TestDAF, TOEFL, TOPIC, TÖMER can be selected as foreign languages ​​as one of the international language indicators.

In addition, the applicant’s Overall GPA must be at least 81 points.
