A document on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations was also discussed

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan says the meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov was constructive and sincere.

He told a joint news conference after meeting with Lavrov in Yerevan on June 9 that a possible document on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and issues related to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were among the main topics of discussion.

According to RFE / RL’s Armenian Service, The ministers discussed issues of mutual interest, including regional and international security.

Mirzoyan stressed that the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a key issue, and Yerevan is ready to make efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

He believes that this should include key articles on the security of Karabakh, ensuring all its rights and status.

Mirzoyan noted that the principles of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were developed by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is an international mediator, and Armenia is interested in intensifying activities in this direction.

Peacekeeping mission

As for the peacekeeping mission in Karabakh, Ararat Mirzoyan said that Armenia still believes that Russian peacekeepers will restore the status quo established by the November 10, 2020 statement.

According to him, the Azerbaijani side violated the situation by taking Farrukh village on March 24.

Mirzoyan also said that despite the fact that two years have passed since the end of hostilities, the Azerbaijani side still refuses to return prisoners of war in violation of international humanitarian law. Mirzoyan hopes that Russia will make more efforts in this area as well.

The meeting also discussed the opening of transport and communication lines in the region, as well as the demarcation and security of borders.

“The opening of regional ties can create new opportunities, including the diversification of logistics ties between Armenia and Russia. We hope that the commission at the level of deputy prime ministers will achieve positive results. “ said Mirizoyan.

Sergei Lavrov is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Azerbaijan has not yet commented on Mirzoyan’s statement.
