‘Why should we destabilize the country?’
“The idea that the United States is trying to destabilize Azerbaijan is, to put it mildly, unfounded. Such information may come from a place where Azerbaijan does not want to get closer and cooperate with Western countries, especially the United States. This was stated by US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Orl Litzenberger on June 9 in response to Turan’s question “Why do Baku believe that the West wants to destabilize, organize a color revolution and for this purpose finances the opposition and critics of the Azerbaijani government.”
“If we look at the volume of investments, we see that we are interested in peace and stability. Since the early 1990s, we have invested more than $ 1.5 billion in Azerbaijan. Why destabilize a country that is such an important supplier of energy resources to the West? It doesn’t make sense, “the ambassador said.
According to the ambassador, this may be due to the call of the United States to respect fundamental freedoms: “In numerous meetings with officials, we have noted that the protection of fundamental rights such as freedom of speech and assembly helps stabilize the situation, not violate it. The threat to stability in the region is not the United States, but Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

The ambassador added that Russia could be very irrational and unpredictable: “I understand why the countries of the region are so worried.”
The US ambassador added: “I think that the United States will support the independence and territorial integrity of all countries. If we see such threats, appropriate and proportionate measures will be taken. “
Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24. The international community condemns Moscow’s move and calls for the withdrawal of its troops from Ukraine. Russian officials claim that they have no intention of occupying Ukraine, their goal is to achieve its neutrality.
