That is, the price of the 1st type has been increased to 800, the 2nd type to 780, the 3rd type to 740, and the 4th type to 700 manats.

In 2017, a 5-year state program on the development of cotton cultivation was adopted in Azerbaijan. The main goal of the program is to increase raw cotton production to 500,000 tons in 2022.

In 2021, according to official data, in 17 regions of the country 10Cotton was planted on 0.5 thousand hectares, 286.7 thousand tons of products were supplied and given to processing enterprises. This is 202015 percent less compared to the year.

The economist noted that one ton of cotton yarn was sold abroad for 2,832 dollars last year, and 4,180 dollars this year: “In the last year, the export price of cotton yarn is 1 thousand 348 dollars, or increased by 48 percent. If the price of the product you sell abroad has increased by 48-54 percent, why do you increase the price of the cotton you buy from the farmer by 14 percent?”

According to him, as a result of such “slavish” attitude towards the villagers, the collection of cotton decreased by 50 thousand tons last year.

Economist Unit Muharramli and he told RFE/RL that even though this year is the last year of the adopted state program on cotton growing, it is not worth waiting for not only 500 thousand, but even 290 tons of crops: “This year, like last year, the yield of 280 tons, maybe even lower, is expected. Because cotton farming has been ruined.”

According to him, raw cotton producers should unite and create an association, process the cotton and sell the final product: “Unfortunately, the raw cotton producers suffer losses up to half every year. That’s why many cotton growers are out of business. The rest of the cotton growers are people who are attracted to the processing enterprises created by the government, to whom they have been given equipment and advances when they have time, and they cannot avoid this work. Because they have debts to processing enterprises.”

According to V. Maharramli, processing and export are in the hands of monopolists: “For this reason, farmers have another way out way because they don’t have it, they sell their products to monopolists at the price they set. Today, the price of cotton in world markets is constantly increasing. Unfortunately, only 50 manats are given to cotton producers offer they do, this increase is not in line with the prices in the market. In addition, processing enterprises leave half of the goods they receive in the name of garbage and moisture. That’s why they pay less money to farmers.”

It was not possible to speak with the processing enterprises operating in this field. Their representatives mentioned only in conversations outside the interview that the purchase price of cotton is gradually increased.
