The daily export capacity of the North Stream-1 pipeline, which transports gas from the shores of St. Petersburg to the northeastern part of Germany, is 170 million cubic meters.
Gazprom is the largest shareholder of the pipeline managed by Shimal Akhiny AG.
Although Germany initially supported the Nord Stream-2 project, which was built parallel to this pipeline, the implementation of the project was stopped after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Gazprom said that the pipeline accident was recorded at the Portovaya compressor station, and the turbine is currently being repaired by workers from the German company Siemens.

Speaking to the BBC, Swedish economist and energy analyst Cornelia Meyer said that the suspension of gas supply will have a significant impact on unemployment and energy prices.

But the price increase is not only observed in blue fuel, which means that the cost of living will increase significantly. “Gas is just an accelerator here because it’s used in many industrial processes, so rising gas prices will affect jobs and the cost of living,” the economist said.
