Armenia, north or south – Where does the danger come from? |

Azerbaijan Turkey and IV with Israel Azerbaijan The International Defense will sign contracts for the purchase of new weapons within the framework of the “ADEX” and XIII International Internal Security, Protection and Rescue “Securex Caspian” exhibitions.

Defense Industry Minister Madat Guliyev said this in his statement to journalists.

Madat Guliyev said that Turkeydevelopment of cooperation with Israel and Pakistan Azerbaijan military– is the priority direction of the industrial complex.

“Today, the world’s most powerful weapons are produced both in Turkey and Israel. Turkeywith Israel and Pakistan military“- cooperation in the technical field is our priority,” Guliyev said.

Thus, it is not only about strengthening domestic development, but also about buying new weapons in Turkey and Israel. That means, To Azerbaijan for some reason it is still necessary to arm. Today, even the most ignorant people know that in the South Caucasus military– in the technical sense, there is no better equipped country than Azerbaijan. In such a case, the question arises: why does our state need to buy more new weapons from abroad, to replenish its arsenal, why is this necessary? It is unlikely that this is due to some potential threat from Armenia. If so, could it be about providing protection against possible threats from the north and south? Or are there other purposes behind these future acquisitions?

Azerbaijan Former employee of the Department of Information and Analytics of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic, military expert Free Isazade shared his views on these points with the Press Club:

– The first point I pay attention to is that this statement was not made by the representative of the Ministry of Defense, Azerbaijan Minister of Defense Industry, who heads the military-industrial complex. There are two types of purchases. First, the weapon is simply purchased and used, periodically purchasing spare parts for it. But there are also contracts where, along with this or that type of weapon, its technologies are also purchased. Now that we have examined the speech of the Minister of Defense Industry, I do not rule out that in the future either joint production facilities or some repair facilities will be established in Azerbaijan on certain models of military equipment with these countries. And I can say unequivocally that there will be design bureaus that will work on the development of domestic analogues of these weapons. Such cooperation in the military-technical field is, in principle, also the development of the military industrial complex.

The cooperation that Madat Guliyev talked about is something broader than the usual purchase of weapons. This one.

Second, even if we just buy guns, it To Azerbaijan needed. Because all issues with Armenia have not been fully resolved. in the Azerbaijani army Russia the share of the weapon is still quite large. We understand that these weapons will eventually fail, and there are issues related to their repair, provision, and purchase. Russia and it is under sanctions and it is not known how long the sanctions will last. That is, it may be Russia Artillery, armored vehicles, aviation (almost 80% of which are made in Russia), which make up the main part of its production, will sooner or later require electronics and high-precision equipment. And we simply will not be able to buy them from Russia due to sanctions.

This means that we should already look for analogues and substitutes for all these in countries where we will never have problems in the future. At least in the visible perspective, we should start working. We need to look for places where we can easily get spare parts and repair kits.

The third aspect is military history. Ukraine based on the example, let’s recall that when the USSR collapsed, this republic had the largest stockpile of weapons. For example, Armeniaif there was a Transcaucasia military district on the territory of Azerbaijan and Georgia, Ukraine there were three military districts in their lands. And all three aimed to strike at Europe. It was the so-called Second Strategic Echelon. According to, Ukraine filled with tanks, artillery, planes. Moreover, when the withdrawal of the Western Group of Forces from East Germany and Poland began, the main part of heavy, armored equipment crossed the border of the USSR and stopped in Ukraine. There were so many weapons that Ukraine sold them to almost the whole world. Both to Africa, to Asian countries, and to some European countries. We and the Georgians used to buy from them. As a result, by 2014, they simply had no weapons left. The lack of weapons created at that time is still felt today – 8 years later. They just lack tanks. At one time, there was an abundance of weapons.

What does it mean? It means that buying weapons and creating certain weapon stocks can always be useful.

From the north and south To Azerbaijan As for possible threats, I still cannot imagine a situation where a large-scale attack on our country would be launched from these directions. But I also know that a year ago, no one would have thought that Russia would attack Ukraine. Although not explicitly stated, the military doctrine of all states implies that a potential strike should be expected from all neighbors. In other words, we must understand that both Turkmenistan’s landing on our territory and the attack order from Georgia are taken into account conditionally. Certain protective measures should be implemented in all these areas. Weapons should also be placed in ranges or military units along the state border, respectively.
