Turkey’s new media law is criticized

“Fake informationThe lack of clear definition of the concept has caused concern of the opposition and human rights activists

in Turkey deputies approved the new media law. The law states that “false information” up to 3 years for publication imprisonment punishment is provided. According to human rights groups, this law will limit freedom of expression ahead of elections scheduled for next year.

“Today is another black day for online freedom of expression and press freedom in Turkey.” – Regional researcher of human rights organization Amnesty International South Star said.

“These new measures allow the government, which has increasingly controlled the media in recent years, to further censor and silence critical voices before the upcoming elections in Turkey, also under the name of fighting disinformation.” – Yıldız added to his words.
