PHOTO REPORT from a cave in Baku with a branch extending to the Caspian Sea

Kühul mountain and cave located in Bakukhanov settlement of Sabunchu district of Baku reflect the hidden history. This mountain and cave once again emphasize the historical importance of Baku. At the time, it was considered the best image of Baku.

The entrance of the cave in the mountain located in Bakikhanov settlement is 5 meters wide and 13.6 meters high and consists of two rooms. The length of the first room is 38.4 meters, the width is 5 meters, the length of the second room is 7.9 meters, and the width is 7 meters. The total area of ​​the cave is 255.7 square meters. According to residents’ words and written sources, the cave exits to the Caspian Sea through a 2 km long branch.

Over the years, different legends have been told about the cave. In one of them, it is said that in the Middle Ages, a stone wall was built in front of the cave to protect it from uninvited guests and wild animals, which indicates that people used the place for living.

Since the 1990s, the surrounding area of ​​the mountain and cave has been under construction. Currently this area weather It is not visible from the highway leading to the port. It is as if the mountain and the cave have become an abandoned, forgotten place over the years.
