China eases Covid bans, but… |

In a number of Chinese cities, including the capital Beijing, restrictions related to the COVID pandemic are being relaxed. But officials have not announced when the “zero-Covid” policy will officially end.

In at least 17 big cities, it is possible to get on public transport without showing a document about the negative virus status. Industrial centers, businesses, markets are also reopening.

“AP” writes that restrictions remain in force in areas where infections have been registered.

China’s strict anti-virus policy has sparked mass protests in recent days. Citizens President Xi Jinpingthey demanded his resignation.

The government announced last week that millions of 70-80-year-olds will be vaccinated, which is a condition for the end of the “zero-Covid” policy.

The policy has blocked the entry of tourists to China, disrupted processing and global trade.

Health experts and economists warn that the policy may end only by mid-2020, possibly as early as 2024. By then, vaccination rates should rise, and hospitals should be prepared for a possible sharp increase in infections.

“China is not yet ready for a rapid recovery. We expect the containment measures to remain in place… If hospitalizations increase, restrictions may also be tightened dynamically,” – “Morgan Stanley” economists said today – December 5.

The latest changes are believed to have been announced to ease public anger. However, it is unclear whether any measures have been taken in response to the protests in Shanghai and other cities.

At a time when China is trying to eradicate infections USA and other countries are easing restrictions, trying to live with the virus.
