There is a call to unblock Radio Liberty in Kyrgyzstan
About 120 public figures, writers, actors, politicians and activists in Kyrgyzstan, for unblocking the websites of Radio Liberty, known as Azattik in the country the president Sadir Japarov and appealed to other high-ranking officials.
Azattik Radio’s website has been blocked since October.
An open letter published on December 13 as well of parliament speaker Nurlanbek Shakiyeveh Prime Minister Akilbek Japarova, State National Chairman of the Security Committee Kamchibek Tashiyevas well as addressed to the Kyrgyz society.
Struggle for freedom
The letter reads:
“Freedom of speech is one of the fundamental values that the Kyrgyz people have loved and protected for centuries. … It is difficult to imagine the magnitude of Azattik Radisou’s contribution to the creation of independent Kyrgyzstan, the freedom our ancestors fought for in the Soviet era and the Kyrgyz people longed for in 70 years.”
The letter calls for the full restoration of Radio Liberty’s activities in Kyrgyzstan.
The Kyrgyz government launched Radio Azattik’s websites in Kyrgyz and Russian on October 26, Radio Kyrgyz-Tajikistan on the border blocked the video report on the clashes after he refused to delete it.
