US prosecutors launch website for Bankman-Fried fraud victims |
NEW YORK, 7 january (Reuters) – USA government has created a website for victims of FTX cryptocurrency exchange founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s scam to contact law enforcement.
Friday night in the evening USAU.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan allowed federal prosecutors to use the website and not contact the victims personally.
Prosecutors said FTX may have owed more than 1 million people and made it “impossible” to contact each one.
Federal law possible from prosecutors crime requires contacting victims to inform them of their rights, including the right to reparation, to be heard in court, and to be defended against defendants.

Bankman-Fried, 30, pleaded not guilty in November to eight counts of wire fraud and conspiracy in connection with the FTX bankruptcy.
Prosecutors said he stole FTX customer deposits to pay off debts to hedge fund Alameda Research and lied to investors about FTX’s financial condition.
At one time, the billionaire admitted his shortcomings in risk management, but himself crime said that he did not hold him responsible.
