Radio Liberty opens a bureau in Latvia
Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) has opened a new bureau in Riga, the capital of Latvia, as part of the fight against Russia’s campaign of disinformation and censorship.
President of Radio Liberty Jamie Flay (Jamie Fly) thanked Latvia and said, “We are excited to work with Russia’s insidious influence to give hope to those still deprived of their freedom.”
President of Latvia Egils Levits, USAin Latvia ambassador John Carville (John Carwile) and other officials will participate in the opening of the office.
Russian-language “Current Time” jointly with Azadlig Radio “Voice of America” news platform is expected to be located in this office.
The Riga office is the largest of the radio news will become one of the centers, Russian-language content, including research, non-news programs, as well as the morning show of “Current Time” will be prepared here.
In the office, Russian-language materials will be created for viewers of the Baltic countries, wider Europe, and other countries. The purpose of the daily news program, which will cover the Baltic region, was once part of the Soviet Union, and now it is European Union (EU) and NATO is to prevent Russia’s disinformation about these three member countries.
Radio Liberty closed its offices in Russia in March 2022. Since Moscow launched an unjustified war against Ukraine in February last year, most of the independent media outlets have either been shut down or left the country under pressure from the government.
Radio January 10opened a new office in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. The goal is to present content to the Russian and Belarusian-speaking audience in Belarus against the state propaganda and censorship of the authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko.
