Are shortages and high prices expected in Azerbaijan? – DISCLOSURE |

“This year is sharp in the world food the number of people suffering from deficiency may reach 349 million”.

This was stated by the executive director of the World Food Program, David Beasley.

According to him, a severe food shortage is predicted in 2023. The executive director as the reason for this hungerdrought, disruption of supply chains, rising fuel prices and transport costs have shown price increases amid the current heavy burden on the health care system.

I wonder if it’s a crisis To Azerbaijan will it affect

Economist-expert who made a statement on the subject Khalid Karimli said that he does not consider 2023 to be an economically intense year:

“This forecast is more relevant for the beginning of 2022. True, the price level is somewhat high. However, I do not consider 2023 to be a busy year. Every month on the food price index of the World Food Organization report gives

Food almost every month for the last 9 months since April prices 1-2 percent fell. It also fell in December. Looking at the report at the beginning of January, it fell by about 1.9 percent in December. It is not very important. In February 2021, both meat, cereals, oils, and vegetable products fell by 6.7 percent. Stock markets do not only value today, they also take into account the risks and fears of tomorrow. With this, they form a price.”

The expert noted that there is currently a problem in the value chain:

“The constant drop in the price level is the reaction of the stock exchanges. Last year’s food prices was maximal. If the average prices of 2022 were 14.3 percent higher than the average prices of 2021, then the end of 2022, that is, the beginning of 2023 prices 9 percent below their 2022 average. If we compare 2022 with 2021, 5 percent growth remains. This means that problems in the value chain, inflation expectations have also fallen.”

Kh. Karimli added that there is no shortage expected in Azerbaijan:

“Because with countries, for example, Russia our relations with are normal. The price change in the stock market comes to the markets after 6 months. The reason is the goods on the way.

Whether markets are competitive or not is important. If it is in the hands of a monopolist, it raises the price. Then he sees that the people are used to it and they don’t download it anymore. When there is a competitive market, it drags it down. There is this problem in many markets in Azerbaijan. We will see prices drop this year. In 2023 prices will stabilize. No shortage is expected.” (oku.az)
