In the Soviet republics during the period of reconstruction national-Andrey was a student of the architecture faculty at the institute when the liberation movement and ethnic conflicts broke out. But he dropped out of the faculty and joined the ITAR-TASS photojournalism. At the same time, Associated Press (USA) started cooperation with the agency. In 1993, Andrey Solovyov went on his last business trip to Abkhazia. He was shot by a sniper while filming the battles in front of the Government House in Sukhumi.

“Witnesses say that Andrey was hiding and working a short distance from the building of the Council of Ministers, near the small market. At that moment, a name came out and he shouted for help. Andrey was not indifferent in such situations. Although he knew that there were Georgian snipers everywhere, he jumped up and ran to help the woman. At that very moment, a sniper shot him right in the neck…”– journalist Anna Broydo recalls.
