Japanese Artist Turns Heads With Weird Meat Accessories | – #Japanese #Artist #Turns #Heads #Weird #Meat #Accessories

Feb 6 (Reuters) – A Japanese DJ has found a new calling, creating strange flesh-like accessories inspired by horror movie special effects, such as severed finger inks, winking pendants and purses with mouths and stubble.

After featuring his first piece of artwork on his debut album cover in 2017 – a music mixer wrapped in silicone flesh – Masataka Shishido, also known as DJ Doooo, has been tasked with dozens of other unusual creations.

“At first, almost everyone felt it was rude,” said Shishido, 36, wearing a disco ball with a chain around his neck.

“Once people learned that it was a work of art with certain functions, they started saying it was cute and interesting.”

Shishido says his art is often commissioned by clients who request their own body parts on the items. He draws the designs by hand before a Tokyo studio called Amazing Studio JUR takes up to two months to turn the concept into reality.

Custom-made items don’t come cheap: USB devices and finger-shaped ink stamps cost about 150,000 yen (1,166 dollars), and the disco ball she wore cost about 580,000 yen (4,500 dollars) is worth.

Shishido said that his art has attracted the attention of celebrities. American rapper Lil Yachty in 2021 social posted a video of him holding one of the flashing balls on the network.

On the streets of Tokyo, his creations are also turning heads.

“It’s so real it will surprise you,” said Australian tourist Laura Teale, 22, who stopped to ask Masataka about the artwork hanging from his neck near the capital’s bustling Shibuya crossing.

“I feel it’s very real. I feel a little gross, but it’s really nice,” she said.
