SHENZHEN, China, Feb 8 (Reuters) – Meng Wanzhou will take over as rotating chairman of Huawei Technologies ( HWT.UL ) on April 1, Shanghai Security News said on Wednesday.
Meng in September 2021 of Huawei-related companies USA returned to China after nearly three years in prison for attempting to sell equipment to Iran in violation of sanctions.
The extradition drama has become a central source of friction between Beijing and Washington. Meng is the daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei USA after reaching an agreement with his prosecutors, he was allowed to return home.
Huawei’s website announced last year that Meng, the company’s finance chief, would become rotating chairman, but did not specify when his tenure would begin.
In this role, he will lead the company’s top leadership and Huawei’s board of directors for six months.
