BERLIN, Feb 11 (Reuters) – The head of Germany’s domestic intelligence agency fears China is expanding its spying activities against Berlin, he told a newspaper in an interview on Saturday, adding that Beijing political focuses more on espionage.
Thomas Haldenwang, head of the Verfassungsschutz agency, told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that “China is developing large-scale espionage and influence activities. We should be prepared for their increase in the coming years.”
He warned that economic dependence on China political can be used for effect.
“China is pursuing a long-term strategy to achieve its goals,” Haldenwang said. “Political management is already using its economic power, which is Germany and Europe is the result of intensive relations with their economies.”
