February 12 (Reuters) – Ukraine President Vladimir Zelensky welcomed efforts to restore power generation systems damaged by Russia’s attacks on Sunday, but told the public it was too early to declare victory on the energy front.

Zelensky said power workers did such a good job of repairing damage caused by Russian missile and drone strikes on Friday that most people didn’t have to experience many outages on Saturday and Sunday.

He said in his evening video address: “… the fact that we can experience such peaceful energy days after a massive missile attack this week proves the professionalism of our energy workers.”

“We must understand: this is not yet a decisive victory on the energy front. Unfortunately, there may be new terrorist attacks from Russia. “If there is more destruction or consumption growth, there may be new restrictions.”

Zelensky said that scheduled power outages will resume when the work week begins on Monday.

Russia in recent months of Ukraine carried out repeated attacks on energy facilities, sometimes leaving millions of people without electricity, heating and water supply in the cold winter.

Energy Minister German Galushenko said that after the attacks, the energy shortage of Ukraine has been significantly reduced thanks to an “ultra-rapid maintenance program” that keeps all nine nuclear power units in its control areas operational and connected to the grid.

“This is Ukraine it is the best answer to the enemy’s fire of energy workers”, he said in his statement.
