LONDON, Feb 14 (Reuters) – In Netflix’s hit period drama “Bridgerton,” Queen Charlotte, the sassy and meddlesome monarch, is getting her own spin-off series that follows the popular character’s origin story.
Premiering on the streaming platform on May 4, Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story goes back in time to recount the monarch’s rise to power and love life.
A six-episode series, set in Regency London, with first series 2020It is the first spin-off of Bridgerton, which became a global phenomenon after its release at the end of 2018 and won praise for its diverse cast.
“I loved that we were able to expand the universe and show people how the world of Bridgerton that they know came to be,” Shonda Rhimes, executive producer of “Bridgerton” and “Queen Charlotte,” told fans in a teaser trailer for Tuesday’s event.
“You can see how the stories from the past teach you about the stories in the future… You see them (the ‘Bridgerton’ characters) grow and become who they are.”

“There’s so much time between our show … and ‘Bridgerton’ as we all know it … it’s great for us actors because it gives us the freedom to create our own characters,” Amarteifio said.

On Tuesday, fans were treated to a trailer and clips from Queen Charlotte featuring the rest of the Bridgerton cast, including Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet and Adjoa Andoh as Lady Agatha Danbury.
