US FTC Commissioner Christine Wilson to resign | – #FTC #Commissioner #Christine #Wilson #resign

February 14 (Reuters) – USA Christine Wilson, the only Republican on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), said on Tuesday that she would soon resign, blaming the actions of Lina Khan, the agency’s top official.

“Much ink has been spilled over Lina Khan’s efforts to change federal antitrust law as chair of the Federal Trade Commission,” Wilson wrote in an opinion piece published in the Wall Street Journal. “What’s less talked about is his disregard for the rule of law and due process, and the enabling of senior FTC officials.”

Wilson said in the article that he would be resigning “soon,” but did not specify a date.

His departure will not change the balance of power in the commission. It was supposed to have five members, but without Wilson, a Republican, it would have just Khan and commissioners Rebecca Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya as chair. All three are Democrats.

Khan gave a brief statement to Slaughter and Bedo, wishing Wilson well. “While we often disagree with Commissioner Wilson, we respect his commitment to his beliefs and are grateful for his public service,” they said.

Wilson helped Khan’s acquisition of Meta Platforms Inc ( META.O ) virtual reality content maker Within protest said he was responsible for “abuse of power” such as voting to do. Wilson argued that Khan had told the FTC that Meta should not be able to make additional acquisitions before coming to the FTC, and that this meant that Khan had recused himself from FTC discussions about the deal.

Wilson wrote: “I court with due process grounds requiring no even appearance of injustice from those sitting in their power protest I did.” The FTC lost its fight to stop the deal.

Wilson, Biden administration accused the FTC of being too aggressive in stopping mergers and banning most non-competes.
