BERLIN, Feb 16 (Reuters) – Around 1.1 million people from Ukraine arrived in Germany in 2022, Germany’s federal statistics office said on Thursday, more than the influx of migrants from the Middle East in 2015.

Two-thirds of immigrants from Ukraine arrived in the first three months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, that is, between March and May of last year.

The news comes days before the one-year anniversary of the February 24 invasion that displaced millions of Ukrainians.

Excluding those returning to Ukraine, immigration from Ukraine to Germany reached 962,000 in 2022, up from a total of 834,000 from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq between 2014 and 2016.
