BERLIN, Feb 25 (Reuters) – A float for adults with mental disorders in Paris child “In Adamant,” a documentary about his garden, won the Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday.

Accepting the Berlinale’s top prize, director Nicolas Philibert said he was deeply moved by the jury’s decision to award it to a documentary rather than a feature.

“That documentary can be considered a movie in itself, it affects me a lot. “For 40 years, I’ve always struggled to look as good as her.”

Filmed over three years, the Adamant is a barge docked on the right bank of the Seine child tells of life in his garden, where patients and caregivers interact in ways that undermine what Philibert sees as the dehumanization of conventional psychiatry.

“As if we didn’t want to see the ‘crazy’ anymore,” he wrote. “They are more often than not discussed except through the lens of an imagined dangerous nature.”

“It’s rare to see something that conveys so much emotion, but remains simple and poignant,” said jury president Kristen Stewart. Especially in the plays given to us by the child.”
