LOS ANGELES, March 12 (Reuters) – Jamie Lee Curtis won the best supporting actress Oscar on Sunday for her portrayal of a tough IRS auditor against a Chinese-American laundromat owner struggling to complete his taxes in “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” “
It was the first Academy Award for Curtis, 64, his first Oscar nomination in a 45-year career in film that began with the horror film Halloween. She beat out other front-runners Angela Bassett and Kerry Condon.
Two weeks ago, Curtis won the same award from the Screen Actors Guild and said in his acceptance speech that when he got the call for a “weird” film and heard he’d be working with co-star Michelle Yeoh, he was all over it.
Curtis as Internal Revenue Service auditor Deirdre Beaubeirdre, before the film evolves into a multi-part action adventure complete with martial arts fights tax Yeoh’s character plays Evelyn. However, in one verse, Evelyn and Deidre sport fingers that look like hot dogs, and Evelyn tries to convince her that she is loved.
