Turkey the president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on March 17 that his government of Finland NATO is preparing to approve the application for membership.

The Associated Press agency writes that so Turkey It paved the way for Finland to join the Northern Alliance before Sweden.

Sweden and Finland NATO membership documents until now NATO two member countries – Turkey and Hungary have not ratified. In order for any country to become a member of NATO, all 30 of its members must agree.

Turkey accused Sweden and Finland of providing shelter and protection to those whom Ankara considers to be terrorists.

However Erdogan pointed out that unlike Sweden, Finland responded to his demands more quickly and comprehensively.

Erdogan President of Finland on March 17 Sauli Niinisto after meeting with said:

“As for the implementation of the tripartite memorandum, we see that Finland has taken sincere and concrete steps.”

After Erdogan’s blessing, it is expected that Finland’s NATO membership application documents will be sent to the Turkish parliament.

“There are no such protests in Finland”

Answering the question about Sweden’s perspective on NATO membership, Erdogan said that it will depend on Sweden’s decisive steps.

Turkey made sharp statements about the burning of the Koran during one of the protests held in Sweden.

Erdogan talked about the difference between Finland and Sweden in this regard and said that “such protests do not happen in Finland”.

The NATO membership issue of Finland and Sweden will be considered at the summit of the alliance to be held in Vilnius in July.

In his meeting with Erdoğan, Niinisto said that he hopes that 32 members of NATO will be gathered at this summit. Currently, NATO has 30 members.

Last June, Turkey, Finland and Sweden signed a tripartite memorandum on NATO membership of the two Scandinavian countries.

According to this memorandum, Finland and Sweden undertook to take measures against Kurdish separatists of Turkey and those whom Ankara considers terrorists.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Tobias Billström said that “We wanted Turkey to make a decision on the application of the two Scandinavian countries at the same time, but we were prepared that this would not happen.”

The case of Sweden will be difficult in Hungary as well

Meanwhile, the prime minister of Hungary Viktor Orban and Hungarian MPs also promised to ratify Finland’s and Sweden’s application for NATO membership.

So far, the Hungarian parliament has repeatedly postponed this issue.
