March 22 (Reuters) – Fintech firm Latitude Group Holdings ( LFS.AX ) said on Wednesday it had found further evidence of a large-scale data breach affecting past and current customers in Australia and New Zealand, sending its shares to an all-time low. .
Latitude said it is trying to determine the number of customers affected and the type of personal data stolen by the hacker.
Shares in the Melbourne-based company, which provides consumer financial services to major Australian retailers Harvey Norman ( HVN.AX ) and JB Hi-Fi ( JBH.AX ), fell as much as 16.2% in resumption of trading. Latitude’s shares were last traded on March 15, the day before the cyber attack was disclosed.
“Our focus is to prevent this attack, the actions of the aggressor court–medical is to continue its expertise and gradually restore operational capability over the coming days,” Latitude said.
Several Australian firms have reported cyberattacks in the past few months, and experts say the country’s cybersecurity industry is understaffed.
“The market is clearly losing confidence in the company and it (the cyberattack) is external, so it’s already out of their control, which makes it even more difficult,” said Tony Sycamore, market analyst at IG Australia.
“Now they are racing against time. They have to try and restore market confidence.”
Last week, Latitude said about 328,000 customers’ personal information, including copies of their driver’s licenses, was stolen. It took its platforms offline on Monday and said the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Cyber Security Center were investigating the attack.
