BRUSSELS, March 22 (Reuters) – Alphabet’s ( GOOGL.O Google company is set to receive unconditional antitrust clearance from the EU for its acquisition of Croatian math app Photomath, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
USAMerger deals involving tech giants and startups have drawn intense regulatory scrutiny on both sides of the Atlantic in recent months, amid concerns that some of the deals could be killer acquisitions aimed at shutting down nascent rivals.
Google It entered into an agreement to acquire Photomath in May last year. The Croatian company’s investors include Menlo Ventures, LearnCapital, Goodwater Capital, GSV Ventures and Cherubic.
It is scheduled to make a decision on the agreement on March 28 Europe Commission and Google refused to comment.
Photomath was started by an engineer and father who wanted to help his kids with their math homework. The app has been downloaded more than 300 million times worldwide and is available in more than 30 languages.
