Karbauskis refused the council member’s mandate

“You probably know I was last on the list. And I didn’t really expect to be ranked that high to get in. But I participated because of that, first of all, and I tell everyone that I show solidarity to my team, to my colleagues in the Šiauliai region,” R. Karbauskis told Elta.

The politician emphasizes that it was not a pity to transfer the council member’s mandate because it will go to the young and energetic chairman of the board of the Kuršėnai Sports School R. Kaveckas.

“I talked with the team and with the elected mayor that I am calm about their work, about his successful work and accordingly I will help as much as I can.” I am an honorary citizen of the Šiauliai district and my commitment to the Šiauliai district remains relevant and clear, and my presence as a member of the council is really unnecessary for them now. And people in the area know that number 50 is not an attempt to make a list or to show that I am some kind of leader,” said R. Karbauskis.

“One of the main arguments was that it is not a grandfather like me who will come to the council, but a young person who will be in his first term and whose political future is decades away,” he emphasized.

ELTA reminds that R. Karbauskis in 2023 March 5 ran for the Šiauliai District Council in the municipal elections. The chairman of the party was listed as number 50 in the list of the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union (LVŽS). However, after the voters, the politician was ranked 3rd.

Already after the first round of elections, during the ELTA press conference, the politician stated that he had no intention of becoming a member of the council, but entered the list to support the “peasant” party branch.

“I showed solidarity with the department – I am registered in the Šiauliai district. I just showed my position that I support this department, I trust the work of this department. I entered the list at number fifty. This is what people ranked accordingly because they know me. The most important thing for me is the result of the division,” he said.

After the leader of LVŽS refused the mandate of the council, it was transferred to R. Kaveck. He remained in 16th place in the list of “peasants” after voting.

March 5 in the elections held in the Šiauliai District Council, LVŽS collected 47.07 percent. votes and won 12 mandates.
