The famous prison escapee who wanted to participate in the fighting tournament: this is the fifth time I will not be released

H. Micevičius, who was introduced as a “Warrior of God” in the famous fighting tournament, but never appeared in it, seems that he will not have the opportunity to participate in the fighting tournament soon – he is currently serving a prison sentence, which will not expire until the summer of next year. But his sentence may be extended even more – another criminal case brought against H. Micevičius is being examined in the Kaišiadorių Chamber of the Kaunas District Court. And there could have been more of them, but, as H. Micevičius himself said, the prosecutors have stopped more than one investigation.

“What are these investigations for?” the prison officer who accompanied him asked H. Micevičius even before the court session began.

“Well, we had a fight, only I didn’t write the statement, but they did,” the man didn’t even try to hide it.

The case, which is being examined by the judge of the Kaišiadori court, is also related to the unlawful use of violence Rasa Balsevičienė – it is suspected that H. Micevičius abused another convict while in prison in the open colony of Pravieniškii.

The fact that there was violence in the prison was confirmed not only by the guards who saved the victim from the impending bigger troubles, but also by some of the convicts who were imprisoned in the open colony at that time. One of them is Tomas S. from Aly, who was imprisoned by the court for driving a car while intoxicated.

“I didn’t see the incident, but the officers called me to talk – they saw through the video cameras that I passed by the section at the time when the victim was injured,” said the witness. – I only saw that one person ran out of the section at that time convict, it seems, Egidijus, – I don’t know the last name, we don’t communicate so closely in prison that we know the last names. But then the officers came immediately and took him away. Only then did I see that blood had been added to the place where he was standing.”

Tom S., who has now been released, added that at the time he was injured a prisonerhe was already asleep.

“I woke up from the noise, I saw Raimonds, whom everyone called a child, holding hands with H. Micevičius – I separated them, said, stop the nonsense, and then I saw another convict whose hand was bloody, but he said that he was injured when he slipped and fell”, he said.

According to him, this convict was taken to Kaunas clinics the same evening due to his injuries.

It is suspected that H. Micevičius committed this crime just a few days after the Kaišiadorii court announced his verdict in the case in which he was convicted of leaving the open colony – the prisoner released to work did not return to the prison, but was returned to the zone only five days later, when the authorities arrested him in the premises of the former taxi park in Vilnius – on that evening, the fighting tournament “Jungle King bare fists” was supposed to take place here, H. Micevičius had to compete with another fighter here.

The convict, who had been hiding for a long time, then told the officers why he did not return to the prison to continue serving the sentence imposed on him by the court.

“I had to return to the correctional facility by 20:00 of the same day, after finishing work that day I went to the station, but I met a friend with whom we drank alcohol afterwards – after drinking I was afraid to return to the correctional facility, so I stayed with a friend at the hotel,” said H Micevičius. “While I was at the hotel, I found out that I was wanted.”

But he still did not plan to return to the zone – he continued to enjoy his freedom, drank alcohol and drugs, and the efforts of the officers to find the fugitive were in vain. But everything changed when one day the officials received news that H. Micevičius, who is at large, plans to participate in the fighting tournament, the organizers of the event have already announced this publicly.

“While I was on the loose, I came up with the idea of entering the Jungle King bare fist competition – I wanted to surprise my friend,” he said. “I took a taxi from the hotel to the competition, but the officers stopped me there.”

The prison officials prepared properly for this arrest – they used their colleagues from the police to help, and when they saw H. Micevičius, they immediately put him on the floor and used special measures. Only later did it become clear that H. Micevičius had planned to participate in this fighting tournament even before his escape – “Jungle King” has distributed videos in which the convict brags that by participating in the tournament he will achieve victory “with one punch”.

It was not the first time that H. Micevičius left the correctional institution – less than half a year after the fighting tournament, which did not bring him success, he went to Alytus prison the transferred convict caused trouble to the officers again as required. Only this time they were more alert and managed to arrest the fugitive.

H. Micevičius, who was a prisoner in the open colony, escaped from the prison when he broke in while on the second floor, and then he pushed out the protective bars of the window and jumped out of the window. H. Micevičius had two bags with him.

An officer who was monitoring the area through video cameras saw that the convict had escaped from the colony – he reported this to his colleagues through a radio station.

“I didn’t recognize the escaped convict because I didn’t pay attention to them, and the quality of the camera images is not good enough to be recognized,” said a junior specialist of the Security Management Department who reported the escape later.

His colleague was the first to catch the fugitive, who at that time was very close to the place where H. Micevičius escaped from the colony.

“I got into my personal car and drove according to the specified description to look for the convict,” said the officer. – I was going towards St. Kazimierz Church, when I saw a person walking towards me with two bags, and when I got there, I saw that it was the convict H. Micevičius. I immediately understood that it was he who escaped from the open colony, I knew him by sight.”

But it was not so easy for the officer to arrest the prisoner – when he stopped the car, got out and walked towards the convict, he saw a uniformed prison employee and immediately realized that he was the one who came to get him.

“I’m already here,” H. Micevičius said, threw his bags on the ground and, holding only a clip with some documents in his hand, started running towards the nearby apartment buildings.

“I chased him through the yards and caught up with him near the former home for children with developmental disabilities in Alytus county and demanded that he stop and lie on the ground – the convict obeyed, did not resist,” the officer recalled the fugitive’s pursuit.

After arresting the fugitive, he got into a difficult situation – he didn’t even have a mobile phone with him, which he had left in the car, so he couldn’t call for help.

“After taking the convict by the hand, I led him towards the penitentiary, but then as I was walking I saw my colleagues running towards us, to whom I handed the convict over – then he was handcuffed and taken to the penitentiary”, the officer said that he then returned to his car, took the bags left by H. Micevičius and returned to the prison.

H. Micevičius did not explain to the arresting officer why he decided to run away, but later he found out that the convict had written a letter that day asking to be taken to the Addiction Center in Kaunas on the same day.

“As far as I know, the official who is responsible for the release of convicts found out that you need to register in advance at this center, and H. Micevičius had not done that,” he added.

According to the official, H. Micevičius is included in the list of convicts who tend to escape, so he is released everywhere only with an accompanying officer.

At that time, the convict who tried unsuccessfully to escape from the prison said that he used drugs in the prison.

“I really wanted to stop, I looked for various ways, I registered in the hospital, I had withdrawal symptoms, I was treated with medicine in the hospital, but it didn’t help,” said H. Micevičius. – I was trying to avoid drug use in the penitentiary, so I ran away. And I’m guilty of that myself, I don’t blame anyone but myself. Then I went to the seventh bedroom, pushed the bars out of the window, tied myself to the bed with a sheet and jumped out of the window from the second floor.”

The prisoner testified that he was then affected by the disease: “Now I don’t understand why I did it.”

After this unsuccessful attempt to escape, H. Micevičius was imprisoned under stricter conditions – he is serving his sentence in cell-type facilities.

H. Micevičius has changed his name – before he was not Habib, it is believed that the convict, who admires martial arts, changed his name because he was too impressed with the Russian fighter Habib Nurmagomedov. H. Micevičius, who has been convicted at least 13 times, was behind bars for the first time in 2011, when he was convicted of theft, health impairment and violation of public order. In the same year, the court also convicted him of gang rape of a minor. He was later convicted of resisting officers, theft, robbery, disorderly conduct, violence, possession of drugs for his own use, and disorderly conduct when he slashed his friend’s arms and legs with a knife while drinking.

“All my crimes are due to alcohol,” H. Micevičius has repeatedly admitted to the authorities.
