After the death of the famous architect and designer, he shared a sensitive post: it was too early and too painful

“We lost a colleague – designer, architect, pedagogue Šarūnas Šlektavičius – very early, too painfully, unjustly. Restrained, always very professional demeanor, demanding, supportive and inspiring words, subtle sense of humor, sincere attention and friendliness – these are just a few of Šarūns’ distinctive features, which first of all appear to his colleagues, students, and friends.

Sarūnas’ warm care and protection surrounded not only his family and friends, but also senior colleagues, students, and like-minded people. Being a strong and consistent person of values and ideas, he set high quality requirements both for himself and for others, without lowering the bar and creatively finding solutions in dead-end matters.

Šarūnas was a perfectionist… and worked without sparing himself – after all, so much had to be done in establishing the field of design. He was a visionary who saw the powerful design potential of Lithuania, nurtured it through his pedagogical activities, created and promoted ambitious projects, and accumulated the history of design. At the same time, he was a modest, self-sacrificing person who often gave his creativity and strength to others – to raise young designers or to honor older colleagues.

Due to his efforts and concern, most of the achievements of his senior colleagues were recorded in the “Design Foundation”, he significantly contributed to perpetuating the memory of Felix Daukantas, collecting and disseminating the history of other important Lithuanian design creators. He devoted no less energy and love to his teaching activities – his attentive mentorship led a considerable group of young designers to professional heights and international recognition, awarded with Lithuanian and international prizes, creating innovative products and services and thus realizing Šarūnas’ vision of strong, internationally recognized Lithuanian design .

A close personal relationship and a very important contribution to the achievements of young people is evidenced by the fact that some of them called Šarūnas “Coach” – warmth, demandingness, and systematic, persistent joint work can be found here,” it is written on Facebook.
