Karbauskis stung Landsberg: no, boy, you are not right in this situation

“These are Gabrielius Landsberg’s decisions, which he did not coordinate with either the president or the Seimas… They made decisions and today it is practically impossible to reach an agreement with the conservatives on foreign policy, because these people do not want to negotiate with anyone,” he told “Žinių radio” on Friday R. Karbauskis.

“The head of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis trying to prove himself right against everyone else in the world. We say in this situation, no, boy, you are not right in this situation. Lithuania is suffering enormous losses due to the termination of trade relations”, said the leader of the “peasants” in a rhetorical address to G. Landsbergis.

Divergent views on Lithuania’s attitude towards China were one of the main factors why the parliamentary parties failed to sign an agreement on foreign policy. R. Karbauskis asserts that when it comes to the future plans of Lithuania’s foreign policy, Lithuania should first of all seek to normalize relations with China.

“(ELTA is needed) to restore the work of the Chinese diplomatic mission, to restore full diplomatic relations. To what they were when Foreign Office made decisions on the name of the Taiwan representative office. This is very easy to do,” said R. Karbauskis.

ELTA reminds that the agreement of the political parties on foreign policy was started after Russia started the war in Ukraine. Most of the controversy during the preparation of the agreement was caused by the divergent opinions of the ruling party and the opposition regarding the position towards China. As a result, no agreement could be reached. Approaching the one to be held in Vilnius NATO for the summit, the Conservatives returned to the idea of ​​this deal.
