The new mayor Duchnevičius and council members were sworn in at the Vilnius district municipality

“We all create the municipality together. Let’s nurture what we have already done, ensure the continuity of good works, let’s always be close to our residents and let’s do everything to make the Vilnius district a good place to live for everyone,” said R. Duchnevičius at the first meeting of the Vilnius District Council.

For those sworn in on Friday Vilnius district municipalities R. Duchnevičius wished the members of the council innovative, good decisions and clean discussions.

“I wish that we all together find what the residents of the Vilnius district need most and make the best decisions together,” the mayor of the Vilnius district addressed the members of the municipal council.

However, the ruling coalition in the municipal council has not yet been decided. As the mayor of the Vilnius district said earlier, he has already decided who he will appoint as the director of administration. It is also intended to appoint three vice mayors.

R. Duchnevičius, the candidate of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, won the second round of mayoral elections in the Vilnius district.

However, he will have a majority in the Vilnius District Council LLRA-KŠS. The latter has 18 seats out of 31 in the council. The Social Democrats – 7, and the center-right coalition – 6.

However, the election campaign of Lithuanian Poles – Union of Christian Families (LLRA-KŠS) was not satisfied with these election results, whose candidate Waldemars Urbanas lost the fight for the municipal post in the second round of elections.

Party for the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania (LVAT) submitted a complaint in which the party requested the annulment of the Supreme Election Commission (CEC) decision to approve the results of the second round of the Vilnius district mayoral elections. However, the court decided to reject this LLRA-KŠS complaint.
