Vēgėlė: I hardly see the possibility of not participating in the presidential elections

“It’s really a very big trust, really big. And for me, if you turn everything back like that, it is completely unexpected. (…) This gives me a really big push not to deceive, not to disappoint those people who put their hopes in me, who see in me a possible change in politics, a change in different speech, a change in different actions. I am really considering this very seriously (about running for president – ELTA) and the fact that that trust remains – it would be very difficult for me to make a different decision,” I. Vēgėlė told Lrytas television on Thursday.

However, I. Vēgėlė says that at the moment he cannot pay as much attention to political or social activities as he would like. Therefore, he is in no hurry to make a final decision, let alone reveal it.

“There is an election campaign, half a year before the elections everyone must declare whether they are candidates or not. In my opinion, there is no need to put the cart before the horse. There are many other candidates, so the whole environment needs to be monitored”, emphasized I. Vēgėlė.

ELTA reminds that, according to the last survey conducted by the company “Spinter researches” commissioned by the news portal DELFI, the former chairman of the Bar Council, lawyer I. Vēgėlė is in third place in the survey of the most realistic candidates for the post of president.

According to the survey, the leader of the country, Gitanas Nausėda, remains the most realistic candidate for the post of president. In the second place is the Head of the Government Ingrida Šimonytė.

About a fifth of the respondents (20.4%) said they would vote for the current president G. Nausėdas in the next elections – the rating of the president remained stable compared to February (20.1%).

Public opinion and market research company “Spinter research” in 2023. on March 17-27, commissioned by the DELFI news portal, conducted a public opinion poll. Residents aged 18 to 75 years participated in the study.

During the research, 1016 respondents were interviewed. The distribution of research participants by gender, age and place of residence is proportional to the population distribution in Lithuania.

A combined survey method was used during the research: 50 percent. by telephone survey, 50 percent. online. In the case of a telephone interview, the interview is conducted by a professional interviewer. He conducts an interview with the respondent according to prepared questions, recording the answers in the questionnaire. In an online survey, the respondent is sent a link to the survey, which the respondent fills out independently at his/her own time. The link is unique – ie the questionnaire cannot be completed more than once.

The error of the research results is 3.1 percent.
