Warning: Disinformation is being spread on behalf of the Ministry of National Defense

“The malicious actors, using the domain kariuomene(.)com specially created for the distribution of this disinformation, distribute e-mails in which they state that Lithuanian citizens are being called up for compulsory military service and that they will later be sent to fight in Ukraine,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry warned that the content of these letters does not correspond to reality. It is claimed that Lithuanian citizens are not called to LITPOLUKRBRIG, this international brigade operates under a separate mandate.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that only kam(.)lt and mil(.)lt e-mail domains are used in the national defense system, therefore invitations to serve in the army sent from any other domain are not valid.

“The Ministry of National Defense urges citizens to check information on the official sources of the Ministry of Defense and the Lithuanian Armed Forces: on the websites www.kam.lt, www.kariuomene.lt and www.karys.lt, as well as on the official accounts of the Ministry of National Defense and the Lithuanian Armed Forces on the Facebook platform, – is taught in the message.

This is misinformation attack, pretending to be another mail sender (spoofing), according to KAM, is regional. At the beginning of the week, similar letters were allegedly distributed in Poland as well.

In addition, it is said that disinformation about LITPOLUKRBRIG’s plans has also been spread recently by Russian propaganda news websites.
