A mixed group of Seimas members will work in the opposition

“We inform you that from April 25 A mixed group of Seimas members declares itself in opposition. We will seek a dialogue with other factions of the Seimas and will constructively oppose the ruling majority, respecting the principles of democracy, transparency and publicity,” the Mixed Seimas Group informs in its statement.

According to the elder of this group, Agnė Širinskienė, when making the decision, the Mixed Seimas Group was guided by the provisions of the Statute, according to which “A Mixed Seimas Group, which consists of at least 7 Seimas members, has all the factional rights set out in the Statute” and gives the Seimas faction the right to declare itself opposition.

“This decision will allow the Mixed Group of Seimas members to contribute more to the activities of the Seimas, to shape opposition agendas. All the more so since my colleagues and I are basically and still de facto working in the opposition. Therefore, our joint statement only fixes the legal aspects”, says Agnė Širinskienė, elder of the group of members of the Mixed Seimas.

According to Rita Tamašunienė, Deputy Elder of the Mixed Seimas Group, the Mixed Seimas Group promises to support and submit legal acts projects that ensure the consistent development of Lithuania’s regions and the social and economic well-being of Lithuanian citizens.

Jurgis Razma, first deputy speaker of the Seimas, read the statement of a mixed group of Seimas members from the Seimas tribune on Tuesday.
11 parliamentarians work in the mixed group of members of the Seimas. The leader of the group is Seimas member Agnė Širinskienė, the deputy is Rita Tamašunienė.
