The prison term of journalists has been increased

The period of detention of both journalists was extended until June 13 this year.
The defense called the decision groundless and said they would file an appeal.
Starting from the end of 2023, more than 10 journalists were detained and arrested in Azerbaijan.
At first, most of them were employees of “AbzasMedia” publication. First, the director of the site Ulvi Hasanlisaid to be the deputy director Muhammad Kekaloveditor-in-chief Sevinj Vagifqizi was arrested.
Later, journalists Hafiz Babaly, Nargiz Absalamova and continued with Elnara Gasimova.
All of them are charged with Article 206.3.2 (smuggling by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code. The sanction of this article provides for imprisonment from 5 to 8 years.
None of the mentioned journalists feel guilty, they consider it as pressure on their professional activities.
Yesterday, on March 6, 3 Toplum TV employees – video editors Mushfiq Jabbarsocial networks manager Elmir Abbasov and reporter Farid Ismayilov were detained as suspects under Article 206.3.2 (smuggling) of the Criminal Code.
They do not accept the accusation either.
