Deterioration of health of G.Ibadoglu's wife as consequences of police violence
In recent days, the health of Irada Bayramova, the wife of opposition politician and academic economist Gubad Ibadoglu, has deteriorated. Family members believe that this is a consequence of physical pressure on her during her detention by police on July 23, 2023 in Baku. Ibadoglu’s brother Ghalib Bayramov wrote about this on Facebook.
According to him, the injuries she received were confirmed by the doctors’ conclusions. In particular, the police forcibly dragged the spouses out of one car and also forcibly put them in another.
According to G.Bayramov, the names of two policemen who used physical force against the woman have been identified – the chief operative of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Rustamov Elchin Alisa oglu and an employee of the same department Ismailov Ilham Ingilab oglu. They struck Irada Bayramova on the arms, legs, other parts of the body and even on the head.
As a result, she had bruises and bumps on her body and head.
After a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office and publicity in the media, an investigation was launched. An investigator of the Narimanov district prosecutor’s office partially admitted bodily injuries (except for bumps in the head). The ruling stated bruises on the right shoulder, left knee, and left hip as a result of blunt force trauma. Nevertheless, he refused to initiate criminal proceedings, referring to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination that “injuries that do not harm health and could have occurred in various conditions, including falls.”
Two days ago, Irada Bayramova’s health, who is in Sweden, deteriorated sharply, she lost consciousness and was admitted to the “Skåne University Hospital”.
After initial examinations, she was diagnosed with “Inflammation of the vestibular nerve”, the presumptive cause could be severe blows to the head.
According to the doctors’ conclusion, her ability to maintain balance can only be restored by 70%. Due to the ban on leaving the country, Ibadoglu cannot be near his family.
Note that the interior Ministry has not yet responded to the publication of G.Bayramov.
*Ibadoglu was arrested in July 2023 on charges under Articles 204.3.1 (sale of counterfeit money) and 167-3.1 of the Criminal Code (storage and distribution of extremist materials).
A number of states, international organizations, politicians, including the U.S. State Department, U.S. senators and congressmen, called for Ibadoglu’s release. He was recognized as a political prisoner.
On April 22, 2024, the court granted the defense’s request to transfer Ibadoglu to house arrest.
On May 21, the investigation period was extended until August 20. At the same time, the preventive measure was mitigated before being transferred to police supervision. However, Ibadoglu is banned from leaving the country.
