Natig Gasymov posthumously awarded title of National Hero of Azerbaijan

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed an order on awarding Natig Gasymov posthumously the title “National Hero of Azerbaijan”.

He was awarded this title for special merits in defence of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and personal courage shown while carrying out combat missions.

Natig Gasymov was a participant of the first Karabakh war.

In 1992, in an unequal battle with the enemy, members of the detachment in which Gasymov fought were killed. Hiding in a church in the village of Pirler (Hramort) Gasymov continued to fight for 5 days.

He surrendered only after the Armenians threatened to shoot the inhabitants of Khojaly whom they had taken captive.

After being captured, Gasymov was tortured.
