Azerbaijan to Establish SABAH City Technopark, Boosting Innovation Ecosystem
Azerbaijan intends to create SABAH City, a new technology park aimed at stimulating innovation and research, SABAH’s executive director said. This was announced by Rahim Bayramli, Executive Director of the SABAH HUB Innovation Center, at the Baku ID Innovation Festival. This initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Education, aims to consolidate student efforts and enhance the local ecosystem through research and development.
“SABAH City is a project we plan to establish within the next two years,” Bayramli said. “It will bring students together to conduct research and develop the ecosystem. SABAH.HUB will serve as a skill development hub, facilitating interdisciplinary activities crucial for building a robust startup ecosystem.”
Bayramli also highlighted the impending launch of Karabakh University, which will provide a platform for students to present innovative projects to entrepreneurs and startups. This initiative underscores the need for developing human capital, creating infrastructure, and ensuring access to venture capital, with support from partners like 4SIM. A bilateral memorandum signed at the festival will bolster the local startup ecosystem as part of the digital economy’s growth.
Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev emphasized the importance of modernizing Azerbaijan’s education system. “Replicating the outdated education system will yield suboptimal results. The SABAH project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Education, is designed to be different,” Amrullayev stated during a panel discussion at the festival.
Amrullayev expressed gratitude to stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Economy and SABAH.HUB, for their commitment to expanding the SABAH Academy and integrating it with other educational initiatives. He stressed that this collaborative effort would significantly contribute to the development of Azerbaijan’s educational and startup ecosystems.
Highlighting the role of youth in the innovation landscape, Amrullayev said, “We want to see our young people as job providers, not job seekers. This transformation requires developing their knowledge and skills, fostering self-confidence, and learning from mistakes. It starts with cultivating a supportive culture and personal growth.”
