“We are collecting data, we will have the last day. Because even now teachers are registering, they don’t fully decide, there is a lot of fear, psychological tension, stress,” he said.

On Tuesday, members of the Seimas Democratic faction “Vardan Lietuvos” met with the chairman of the Lithuanian Education and Science Trade Union Egidijus Milešinas and the chairman of the Lithuanian Education Workers’ Trade Union A. Navickas and other members of these trade unions.

ELTA reminds that the Vilnius city municipality on Monday issued a permit to the trade union of education workers to hold a rally in front of the Government for a month.

The trade union of education workers led by A. Navickos demanded to raise teachers’ salaries by 20 percent this year. He also requested that from 2024 January 1 salaries would increase by another 30 percent. In this case, the total wage growth would reach 56 percent.

LŠDPS has also expressed the need to reduce the number of students in the newly formed classes, and proposes to provide for a better procedure for working with students with special educational needs.

At the end of August, the Lithuanian Education and Science Professional Union (LŠMPS) also announced that they were considering going on strike. Its chairman E. Milešinas informed that the teachers’ union led by him will consider going on strike if it is not possible to reach an agreement on the raised demands.
