After the incident at the Panevėžys school, classmates are shocked: the schoolgirls could have planned the fight in advance

Panevėžys was shocked by the violent attack in the yard of M. Karka’s primary school.

According to Odeta Jukniūtė, Head of the Communication Sub-Department of Panevėžys County Chief Police Commissariat, the incident happened around 10:00 am. 13 minutes on the territory of the school itself. According to the police, a minor injured a peer with a knife. The injured schoolgirl was taken to the reception-emergency department of the Panevėžys Republican Hospital. According to preliminary data, there is no danger to life.

As Minolė Petronytė-Kairienė, the director of M. Karka’s primary school, said, the incident happened during the long break.

The conflict started between two students of the same school of M. Karka, near the school fence.

Soon, a video spread on social networks, showing how two fighting girls are rolling on the ground, and a third one approaches them. The latter is quickly pulled away and held by an adult man who jumped up.

Later it turned out that the third participant in the conflict attacked one of the fighters with a knife.

According to M. Petronytė-Kairienė, this girl who brought a knife and dared to strike with it is a pupil of A. Lipniūnas pro-gymnasium.

“We’re assuming it was planned and a girl from another school came with a purpose in mind, taking a kitchen knife with her, knowing when the long break would be. The girl did not participate in the conflict, but when it started, she ran up to the victim and stabbed her with a knife. What caused the conflict is still difficult to answer. We are collecting explanations, everyone’s versions are very different,” said the director.

According to her, the school staff rushed to defend the attacked girl. The physical education teacher who was on duty on the first floor rushed in first. The school territory is filmed by video cameras, but the teacher saw the ongoing conflict through the school window.

“The teacher ran into the yard, took the knife and arrested the violent girl, brought her to the principal’s office, where we met the officers and the minor’s mother. The injured girl was given first aid at school, and then the ambulance took her to the hospital,” said M. Petronytė-Kairienė.

As far as she knows, the victim girl was stabbed in the shoulder area. Whether the injuries are deep will become clear after a medical examination.

The children who witnessed the incident also needed help.

“Classmates who saw this incident were shocked. They are provided with the help of a psychologist. We talk with the children about how to behave in such a situation in general, that the most important thing is not to attack to film and put everything on the Internet, but to help a friend experiencing violence and call for the help of adults”, said M. Petronytė-Kairienė.

The director of A. Lipniūnas pro-gymnasium could not be contacted. The administrator who answered the phone of the school office informed that the principal was busy.
