Military experts extinguish Ukrainian euphoria about Abrams: there is good news and bad news

Good news

Tank “Abrams” is technologically superior to the tanks used by the aggressor, the Ukrainians will have the advantage of firepower in support of infantry, the number of mobile means capable of firing effectively from closed positions will increase, and the potential of future offensive operations will be unequivocally strengthened.

In other words, when used properly, Abrams MBTs will make life easier for infantry on the contact line, enable more efficient forward movement, and likely play an important role in developing operational success.

Bad news

When these tanks arrive, they will not radically change the battlefield, since a battalion (combined with PKM can be 2 battalions), that is, 31 tanks (that’s how many the USA plans to send to Ukraine at the moment), is a relatively small capacity, which may not reach Ukraine all at once.

They are most effective when supported by attack helicopters or other aviation, and in this area they still have an advantage Russia (we are still waiting for the F16), the Abrams tanks will be a high value target for the Russians (primarily for propaganda purposes), so everyone will be hunting them.

Therefore, experts suggest to look at everything soberly, hard and bloody work awaits the defenders of Ukraine.

Luhansk direction

Ukrainian forces hit the aggressor’s ammunition depot in Sorokin (near Krasnodon, 140 km from the contact line). The fireworks were spectacular. It is important to mention that since 2014 this logistical point played an important role in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

The aggressor forces in the Svatovė sector are exhausted, and the newly arriving units of the 25th Army are not yet capable of offensive operations. In other sectors, nothing new, the combat routine continues.

Donetsk direction

Bachmut. On the southern flank, the Russians are trying to hold positions near the railway, but the Ukrainians are pounding the occupiers from the heights and launching regular attacks. The Russians also try to counterattack, but to no avail. As if their troubles were not enough, they continue to dig a hole for themselves.

According to public sources, the 98th Airborne Division of the 217th Airborne Regiment moved from the southern approaches to the city of Bachmut to the northern ones.

Probably, its purpose is to cut off the Ukrainian wedge in the Bohdanivka-Khromovye section, together with the 106th Airborne Division of the 137th Airborne Regiment, which is trying to break through the Ukrainian defense on the northern flank.

This is to force the Ukrainians attacking in the south to abandon the idea of pushing on. These actions of the aggressor are confirmed by the intensified Russian attacks at Bohdanivka. The big question is whether they will succeed, especially with the Russian southern flank crumbling.

War in Ukraine

To weaken the group operating here in this way is a very reckless move, but it only makes Ukrainian defenders better.

Avdijivka – Marijinka. The Russians continue to press at Mariyinka and Krasnohorivka. The occupiers are moving in “no man’s land”, but this does not fundamentally change the situation, the Ukrainians continue to control the heights in the west.

Zaporizhia direction

Ukrainians again hit military facilities in Tokmak. Such blows are becoming almost everyday. Thanks to the successful actions of the Ukrainian infantry near Robotynya, long-range Ukrainian artillery and MLRS (HIMARS) can operate confidently.

Orichiv. Battles are far from “one gate”. The Russians are also thinking, adapting and looking for ways to stop Ukrainian units.

Soc. images appeared on the networks of Russian soldiers bypassing the attacking Ukrainians from behind. Despite this, the Ukrainian forces continue the offensive, move in the “no man’s land” on the flanks and push the aggressor’s units in the south. Battles are already taking place on the northern outskirts of Novoprokopivka.

Easter in Novosylka. Positional battles dominate, neither side is determined to take more active offensive actions.

South direction

The aggressor conducted another large-scale strike against the infrastructure of the Odessa seaport. Although all 19 suicide drones and 11 of the 12 Kalibr missiles were downed, the likely falling debris, that one missile breaking through, and the 2 Onyx missiles that hit the targets caused considerable damage.
