Since the beginning of the year, Azerbaijan has irretrievably lost 19 military personnel

On July 1, the Caspian Military Institute of Military Studies (CDSI) published a statistical report on the losses of the security and defense sector of Azerbaijan in the first half of 2024. The irretrievable losses of the Azerbaijani army and other law enforcement agencies during this period amounted to 19 servicemen, the CDSI report says.

At the same time, 17 of them died in non-combat conditions, two died from wounds received in September 2023 during the anti-terrorist operation in Karabakh.

Of the non-combat losses, five deaths of military personnel occurred in car accidents, 4 as a result of various accidents, 3 people died of diseases, 3 committed suicide.  1 soldier died as a result of an “illegal action”, another died “for unknown reasons”. 17 soldiers who lost their lives served in units of the Ministry of Defense, two more – the state border service.

11 of the dead were soldiers, 7 were officers, and 1 was an ensign. The Military Institute also provides statistics on the wounded. In the first half of 2024, at least 18 military personnel were injured or injured. Of these, 15 were injured in an accident, one was poisoned. Two soldiers were wounded by gunfire from the Armenian side.

Caspian Defense Studies Institute (Institute of Caspian Military Studies)  It started working as an analytical center in February 2015 in Germany. One of its founders was Jasur Sumerinli, who headed the Doctrine Center for Journalistic Military Studies until his departure from Azerbaijan in September 2014.
